March 10th-11th Point Arena, CA – This spring, thousands of blooming daffodils in beautiful shades of yellow and orange will welcome in renewal of spring to the beautiful coastal hamlet of Point Arena, Mendocino County, CA. This blossoming, and the advent of spring itself, is the focal point of the Point Arena Merchants Association Annual Flower Power Festival and Daffodil Explosion. The multi-colored blossoms will brighten the drive along historic Highway 1 which becomes Main Street through Point Arena. An early sign of spring, daffodils will trumpet the season from scenic Arena Cove to the historic Point Arena Lighthouse. Saturday’s festival events include a SCRABBLE® tournament, fresh Cioppino, local Gelato, Flea Market, Flower Arranging Challenge and Historic Town. Saturday’s events end with a concert by The Sun Kings, a Beatles tribute band at Arena Theater. Come dressed in Beatles era costumes for contest prizes. The festival culminates Sunday at Point Arena Lighthouse for the Wind and Whales Celebration. Experience the thrilling climb to the top of the 115 foot tower; watch migrating gray whales and enjoy this dramatic setting for a kite flying demonstration by the Berkeley Kite Wranglers. So mark your calendar - It's going to be a great time for the whole family! Come for a day, come for a weekend, or come for a week! This is a combination raffle and auction with bulbs donated from hybridizers and bulb growers from all over the world. Experts will be available to assist new members with your bulb selections and growing advice. The party format will be the following: a bulb sale with each ticket purchased guaranteed a daffodil bulb; bulb auction of select daffodil bulbs, followed by a potluck meal; refreshments, dinner plates, and cutlery furnished by NCDS. There will be kitchen facilities available for heating/reheating as necessary. Hopefully, Jan will bring her famous smoked turkey! Please plan to come - and invite your friends. Keep in mind, by joining NCDS ($10 per household) they are eligible for the bulb sale - easily a value far in excess of the cost of a membership! We thank Jacquie Williams-Courtright of Alden Lane Nursery for inviting us back again this year. Be sure and put our bulb sale on your calendar as a 'must attend' for an afternoon full of daffodil bulbs, fun and great food! Please note, NCDS Board of Directors meeting will be held at 11:00!
